During my 30 years with the Metropolitan Police Service, I have developed a passion for two main areas;
- Helping colleagues achieve success at Promotion Assessment Centres from Sergeant through to Superintendent.
- Resolving high harm and threat to life incidents as a Hostage and Crisis Negotiator, with enhanced training in coordinating Pan London, Kidnap and Counter Terrorism Operations.
From Constable to Borough Commander I have spent the majority of my career on borough in Front Line Policing. Along the way I have held every role upon which the current Promotion Assessment Centres are based, as well as assessing for over 10 years. These experiences have enabled me to help candidates present themselves with credibility and confidence and understand exactly what they need to do to be successful
The skills I have developed as a Hostage and Crisis Negotiator extend beyond policing boundaries. Successfully dealing with people in crisis or under stress who may be both vulnerable and volatile are skills that can benefit employees across a range of public and private sector organisations. Whether being recognised as a compassionate and caring employer, through to faster customer resolutions and greater efficiency, the benefits from acquiring such skills are clear.

Relevant Experience
- Personal promotion success to Sergeant, Inspector, Chief Inspector and Superintendent.
- Trained promotion assessor with the MPS and the two private companies (Penna & Pertemps) contracted to deliver current MPS Promotion Assessment Centres. This has included helping to develop and test current Assessment Centres.
- 10 years assessing experience with the MPS developing a clear understanding of what the MPS and importantly the assessors are looking for in successful candidates.
- The majority of my 30 years has been in front line policing and I have held every role upon which the Assessment Centres are based.
- As a former Borough Commander I understand the current challenges of the roles and context around which you will be assessed.
- Average 89% pass rate.
- 7 Years experience as Metropolitan Police Service Hostage & Crisis Negotiator. Enhanced specialist experience coordinating MPS wide deployments, national and international deployments, specialist responsibility for kidnap and counter terrorism operations.
- Multiple deployments dealing with subjects in crisis, crimes in action, multiple high harm and risk disputes, including both Critical and Major Incidents.
- Extensive experience resolving and de-escalating disputes and conflict involving complex, multiagency responses.
- Extensive experience working with and training front line enforcement teams and practitioners from local authorities and private sector organisations.
